Moving on Up
Increasing the self-management skills of teachers and children
A strength-based approach to behaviour management.
Moving on Up is a whole school approach, which consistently supports all school staff to feel empowered and confident when faced with any behaviour challenge. The focus is upon adults consistently modelling expected behaviours, primarily via language, which results in children making positive independent behavioural choices.

TOPS Time activities, everyone having fun!
“Moving on Up is structured, with clear expectations and consequences. This means that all of the children know exactly what their behaviour should be and what will happen if their behaviour is not appropriate.”
- Year 2 Teacher

“It has really improved the behaviour at our school. Before, the children who were really naughty got lots of Golden Time but the children who were good got little which was unfair. Moving on Up is a much fairer system for all.”
- Year 5 Pupil
“I really like the Moving on Up system as it is fair for all children. My favourite part is playing games with my teacher during TOPS Time. Love it!”
- Year 3 Pupil
“My favourite element of Moving on Up, EVERYONE is treated the same. For me the power is how those quiet, well behaved children are rewarded consistently rather than all energy and attention going to the children whose behaviour requires the most management.”
- Year 3 Teacher
“Before Moving on Up I was really naughty and the first time it was introduced I just thought, oh another Golden Time. Then I learnt that it isn’t. I learnt what I need to do to get my TOPS Time. I wanted to be included like everyone else. I changed my behaviour.”
- Year 6 Pupil
“Other systems were not fair. Moving on Up is for all children at our school which makes a big
difference to EVERYONE’S behaviour.”
